Northbridge Visit

Room 18 students as either part of the junior choir, the kapahaka group or both visited Northbridge retirement home the other day to perform to the elderly residents there. They performed classics such as Putting on the Ritz. The kapahaka group opened the show with a rousing performance which included a haka as well as a poi number. Mrs Shepheard and Mr Simmons accompanied Mrs Stewart on the piano. Mrs Barlow conducted the choir. It was a fun afternoon and I think the residents of Northbridge enjoyed the show.

Pyjama Day

Wow today is pyjama day! We have a pyjama day because we want to fundraise for special needs children, including Room 4, to help them get to go to a picnic called Uncle Eric’s picnic. This picnic will be held next year so the special needs children can enjoy it. When you wore your PJ’S you had to bring a gold coin donation so Uncle Eric's picnic can be a lot better for the children.
We saw spotty ones, girly ones, blue ones, purple ones, pink ones and boys ones. Just before morning tea we had a pyjama parade to show off our PJS. Ha! Ha! You should have seen Mr Betts PJS, they were red hearts!

Constable Bluemel visits Room 18

Last week a policewoman came into room 18 to talk about keeping ourselves safe on the internet. Most of the time we were talking about not giving away any of your personal details away on the internet, on games like Club Penguin & Runescape that you can type in things and your character will say what you have typed in. She was also talking about Hector The Protector if you kids find a website that is rude or you can't exit it click on Hector up in the top right corner. Oh and download him from this website for free: http:// www.netsafe.org.nz/ and his website is at: http://www.hectorsworld.co.nz/

Kuan Yang's Holiday PMI Writing

Plus
In the holidays me and my funny family went to the Warehouse. When we were in the front of the entrance my dad gave me one hundred dollars for nothing. So I brought myself two cool Playstation 2 games. One was called Rachet Gladiator. The other one was called Spy V.S Spy.

Minus.
7 days ago me and my family went to my fantastic school called Sunnybrae Normal school. When I was riding my bike in the front field it started raining.I fell of my bike and it hurted alittle bit. When we walked home we found out that I got a nasty cold. So I was in bed for nearly one half a day.

Interesting.
11 days ago me and my dad went fishing it was really fun. We caught a lot of small fish. They were about 6cm long and 3cm wide. But we gently put them back in the sea. Then we caught an beautiful and bright starfish. But we gently threw it back in the sea too.

INTERESTING INTERNATIONAL WEEK

INTERNATIONAL

WEEK IS THE BEST

WEEK IN THE YEAR!!!

On Monday Mrs Shepheard announced that it was INTERNATIONAL week.
She
told Room 18 we had to wear a traditional costume on Friday 24 August. Some people didn't wear costume to school but others did. I wore a AUS t-shirt and brown pants. At eleven am SNS had a prarade on the senior court. We started with the juniors then the middles then the seniors. The only classes that weren't there were Room 14 & Room 16 because they were at the art gallery. Only the people who had a costume got a picture and some kids got to be in the newsletter. Scott got a picture with Miss Watts.

Auckland Art Gallery Trip

o

On Thursday 23 August 2007, the Middles from Sunnybrae Normal School went to the Art Gallery for a school trip. They mainly went to look at symbols and what they meant. First, almost as soon as they got there, they went to the studio where they painted symbols about themselfs. I did a N.Z. flag, then everyone rushed to their bags to get morning tea. They sat by the waterfall, everyone said the water was freezing! Next they went into the Art Gallery to do one more activity. They picked a picture and wrote down 10 things that they could see in the picture. Afterwards they just had a fun look around.

Everyone in the whole school was chatting and talking about all the excitement of the math-a-thon draw. At last the winners were chosen and announced. All the winners came up to get their prizes. Emily said ''I AM VERY LUCKY I WON THE MATH-A-THON DRAW!!!!!!!!!!'' She had broken a school record that was published in the school libary and is in the browsing corner. Kavannaugh Blade and Michelle Phommasone were the first people to read the book and they were fascinated by how good the book was!! Emily got a medal for winning!

Power Cut Stories by Room 18

One night when I was going to bed suddenly a big boom went off! I thought what was that?
Was it a fire? It went all dark, no lights were on. I looked out my window it was darker than ever. I thought a witch could have done it but then I said to myself, there are no witches anyway. I went to the toilet. I peeped though the door. There was a candle, and a torch. I thought it was Christmas! I saw my dad so it could not be Christmas. Then I thought it must be a POWER CUT. I went straight to bed.

MOTAT Visit

We went to MOTAT recently to learn about how people used to do things. It was great fun taking part in 'The Great Race' where we learned that it doesn't take a lot of the earth's valuable resources to do all those everyday chores. We thought the school room was fascinating, especially the slateboards. Somehow I can't see Room18 students changing from their computers!
